Polar Express Faith? What is that?
This past Christmas season my family and I managed to watch The Polar Express about a hundred million times. This was because our oldest, MJ, loves trains. A few days before Christmas, while watching the movie for the second time that day, I had a thought about the scene with the bell. If you've seen the movie, you know that our main character travels to the North Pole on a magical train to see Santa Claus. Let's call him Matthew because the movie doesn't give him a name. Matthew gets up to the North Pole and can't hear the bells ringing on Santa's sleigh. You see, the sound from these bells can only be heard by those who believe. Matthew travels all the way up to the North Pole, survives perils on the train, sees Santa Claus and his reindeer with his own two eyes, and still can't hear the bells. It's not until he truly believes in his heart that he can hear the bells.
How is this related to faith?
That scene got me thinking that Matthew's experience is similar to our daily struggle with faith. We read every day about how the Lord makes a way for us and we still make it difficult to believe. Whether it's blessing our finances, divine healing from sickness, or any other promise made to us, we constantly battle with claiming what we can have. In The Polar Express, Matthew has to believe before he can hear the bell. It's the same way for us, we have to believe in what we want before it comes to us. That's what faith is. My grandma always used to say that faith is believing it is so, even though it is not so, for it to be so. It can be broken down to such a simple phrase, JUST BELIEVE. It sounds so easy, but my goodness, is it difficult. Jesus knew how little we needed to make things work for us. Faith the size of a mustard seed, that's it. A mustard seed is so small, but we can't even manage that most of the time.
What can we do?
The Bible tells us that the only way we can get faith is through the Word. We must read our Bibles daily to receive faith. We cannot expect to have a day filled with blessings if we haven't done the bare minimum of obedience and read our Bible. Faith doesn't work if it's not there. We MUST pour into the Word to recieve faith to live by. I challenge you to start today, read your Bible today. Then get up tomorrow and make the decision to do it again. Make it a daily habit. See how different your life looks in two weeks. Grow your Polar Express Faith, JUST BELIEVE, and see what happens!
