Monsters, Inc. Birthday Party

Choosing The Theme

MJ is really into the Monsters Inc. movie franchise. After watching the movie a hundred times, we knew he'd love this theme for his birthday party so much.

The Invitations

The invitation was personalized from Zazzle and I built the decor around it. Digital downloads are the way to go if you're not planning on sending paper invitations. Click here for the link to the invitation template.

Outside Decorations

The venue where we host the party doesn't have a huge area for outdoor decorations. We went with something simple, some Monsters Inc. caution tape and a sign I created in ChatGPT taped to the door. I also decided to add a balloon cluster on the handrails on the sidewalk.

Indoor Decorations

We chose lime green, purple, and teal colors to give the room a real Monsters Inc theme from the get-go. The table centerpieces were doors from the movie that tied in so perfectly. We also utilized chair covers to unify the mismatched chairs.

For the gift table, I made and printed the sign. I used purse stands to hang the Happy Birthday Banner. I had seen it from another creator; I believe it was from @courtneys.table. It turned out even better than I thought it would!

Photo Area Set Up For Opening Up Presents

I used a square balloon arch, 2 balloon kits, and some extra 18" balloons. For the backdrop, I used a simple foil fringe backdrop. The foil balloon 4 was a great addition, especially with the monster eyeball balloon. I got a shirt from Amazon that worked so well for the day. We wanted this to be a picture-perfect moment.

Other Decorations

We decided to make this party a bit more interactive and use a version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey. This one was called Pin the Tail on the Sanderson. It's from the scene in the movie where George gets the sock stuck on him and they call a 23-19. We had so much fun with this.

Food and Dessert

We served pizza from Domino's and cake and cupcakes from Sam's Club. We used super cute Monsters Inc cupcake toppers for the cupcakes that I ordered on Etsy. They turned out so cute. We got a blue "Happy Birthday" sign for the cake and had Sam's Club write his name on it. I used a Boo, Sully, and Mike figurine for cake toppers. We decided to just serve tea and water for ease.

Servingware

We decided to use large green plates, monster print cake plates, purple forks, door napkins, and lime Solo cups to really pull the theme together. I printed Mike's eyeball on stickers and put them on the cups so they really looked like Mike Wazowski. I did add the signs to make the food seem a bit more personable.

Party Favors

We initially wanted to do some cute party favors, but time got away from us. Here's what we had planned to use.

The Result?

What’s up, everyone! Michael here again to give an update on how the party went. Emily absolutely killed the decor and design once again. MJ picked his own theme, Monsters Inc. and it all looked amazing. It was really fun to see MJ walk into his party for the first time and see him be very excited for his party. The cake looked amazing and the cupcakes tasted wonderful. It was a great time all around. He got to open his presents and could hardly get to the next one with all the trains he got. He had a blast and is ready for his birthday next year and so am I!
