Taking The Kids To Work. Michael & MJ

Here's the scenario

One day this past week, I was fortunate enough to be able to take my oldest son, MJ, to the office with me. My parents, who usually watch him on Fridays, had something come up at the last minute. Instead of trying to find a replacement sitter on such short notice, my wife and I decided to take one of the kids with each of us.

It finally happened. We had to take the kids to work

In the past, Emily and I have talked about what it would be like to take the boys to our offices for a day. We have had colleagues do this, but never thought this would be a reality for us. So when we got the opportunity, I jumped at it. I felt like it would be fun for both of us (it was) and a great experience to determine if we would be able to do this in the future. Since we both run our own offices, this type of situation is bound to come up.

The result...

When we got to the office, my chiropractic assistant (CA) was very excited for MJ to be there. He started out his day playing with the toys we have up front for other kids who come in to get their adjustment. He always loves playing with daddy's toys. During the day, I had several patients who wanted to take him home with them and even a patient who went home and brought back new toys for him to play with. MJ was such a treat at the office. Overall, he was very well-behaved and had a great time. It was also easier to adjust him at the office. MJ loves climbing on the "official" chiropractic table at daddy's office more than the portable table Emily and I keep at home.

Would I take the kids again?

I would certainly do this again. It was a great experience for both him and I, even though he can only play and have fun right now. In the future, this will allow me to have a teaching moment with him even though our boys are just kids. He needs to learn how we can buy food, his clothes, his toys, and how we vacation. Learning the value of a dollar and the importance of his time can never start too early. His being at the office will also show him how to be of service to others and his community. These are morals that I hope to instill in him at a young age. If Emily has her way, it will foster a love for chiropractic and hopefully lead the way to follow in our footsteps. Stay tuned to read how Emily's day went with Macklin.

Loved this. It always “takes a village”!! And your blessed patients who were able to see that beautiful smile when they were in your office.
