On The Running Trail

A parallel in life seen on the trail

While out running today on the trail, there was a decent-sized tree that had fallen over the trail. As I came upon it, I didn’t think anything of it, stepped over it, and continued on my run. Shortly after I stopped to turn and take a picture of the tree over the trail. It got me thinking of the parallel between the tree and life. I believe this reminder hit me at the perfect time in my life. The trail represents life and how free-flowing it can be. There are going to be curves, twists, turns, hills, valleys, and ups & downs in between the trees of our path of life. The tree shows how easily something that is beyond our control can cause us to make one of two choices. 1. Come up with a solution 2. Allow it to derail our path of reaching our goals.

Feeling stuck

In my experience of owning my own chiropractic office, there are tricks, turns, and obstacles. Easy days, tough days, and days that make you want to quit. I am currently feeling stuck in reaching my goals. No matter what I do, the results are still the same. This has me feeling very frustrated and defeated. I just want to catch a break and I can't.

The tree in the road reminds me that the easiest path would be to just give up and quit. Close the office and find a job working for another chiropractor. Honestly, I have considered it a time or two. This would prevent me from having to do any hard work and really put the time in to determine what the hold up is for me achieving practice growth. Taking the easy route sounds like a great idea for a short time. But, the more I think about the easy way out, the more I realize that's not what's best for me or my family.

Another Lesson On the Trail

Going through a tough time in business or in life always teaches me a lesson. It's usually a different version of the same lesson. The simple lesson is that nothing worth doing is going to be easy. To get what I want out of my life, I am going to have to continue to do the hard work that is required so that I can reap the benefits later. When I fall back into ruts, I turn back to my goals and what I want to get out of life. My wife and I have 2 young boys (2 years old and 3 months) and as all parents know, they grow up way too fast. I want to be able to spend as much time with them as possible. Which means more time at home and less time at the office.

I need to push through these tough times that I am going through now, which will allow me to be at the office less and at home more. Refocusing on this always motivates me to push through and zero in on what needs to get done so I can move towards doing what I want. And that is the most important lesson of all.
