Choosing The Theme

When we had our second baby, we knew from the beginning we were going to incorporate a pizza theme into his pictures. We had seen on Pinterest where someone used Casey's pizza to take their monthly photos and we thought it was so cute. As the months went on, we decided we were going to make his First Birthday Party pizza themed and we loved how it turned out. Our whole family LOVES pizza, so we knew it would be a hit.

The Invitations

The invitation was personalized from Zazzle and I built the decor around it. Digital downloads are the way to go if you're not planning on sending paper invitations. Click here for the link to the invitation template.

Outside Decorations

We wanted the theme to be evident right away. Utilizing these banners next to the door made sure no one was guessing what we were celebrating.

Photo Banner and Guest Book

We used a pizza-themed banner to display his first through twelfth-month photos so everyone could see how Mack had grown in his first year. We don't always use a guest book, but for the first birthday, we like to have a record of who was there.

Indoor Decorations

We chose red and white checkered tablecloths for the table coverings for a real pizza joint feel. The centerpieces were a great addition to the tables. We used white chair covers to bring a more cohesive feel.

Highchair Set Up

We chose a cute highchair banner and did some balloon clusters with a "happy birthday" banner. We wanted this to be a picture-perfect moment. I made the cake from scratch for a healthier alternative, and Mack sampled his first pizza. It was such a fun time. You can find the recipe for the cake here.

Food and Dessert

Obviously, we chose to serve pizza. We got it from Domino's because they were the most cost-saving and it's delicious. My aunt made Italian pasta salad that was a hit! The cake and cupcakes were purchased from Sam's Club. We did a simple white sheet cake with red edges and let the cake topper shine. For the cupcakes, we got chocolate with chocolate frosting and vanilla with vanilla frosting and used the pizza cupcake toppers on top. I made and printed the signs. You can print them yourself HERE.

Servingware

We really wanted to drive the theme home, so we decided on pizza plates and napkins. We chose red Solo cups and black forks to complete the look.

We initially wanted to do some cute party favors, but time got away from us. Here's what we were planning on using.

The Result?

Hey everyone, Michael here! Mack’s first birthday party turned out to be a bittersweet event. The bitter side of things is that it shows you just how quickly time is moving. When he was first born, it felt like it would be forever before we got here. Now that we’re here, it seems like it went by in the blink of an eye. He is growing up so fast and it shows every day with him being very vocal and almost walking now.

The sweet part is being able to see everyone who wants to celebrate with him. We had a huge turnout from close family to cousins to friends that we haven’t seen in ages. It was great to be able to catch up with them all. The best part was seeing Mack having a good time at his first party. He tried pizza for the first time and tore into his smash cake; it was evident he was having a blast. It was amazing to watch all of our family and friends interact with him and play with him. We cannot wait until his 2-year-old party next year. Stay tuned to see what theme we choose. Here is to a great 2nd year with Macklin!
