A long time coming!
Hello readers! Today is the first meeting with our builder to start the process of building our dream home! Michael and I have been dreaming about building a house since before we got married. We have been working on plans since at least 2021. To say we were initially excited about this meeting would be an understatement. Well, full transparency, I’m not very excited today because I found out yesterday that my IC position was terminated. Yes, terminated. This position made up a big part of my contribution to our income. In this economy, there’s just not enough work available to keep my position.
Instead of feeling excited to talk about building our dream home, I spent the morning reworking our budget and came to the realization that our build may be pushed back another year or two. (We were already looking at being 3 to 4 years out anyway). When I got home from my office, I was greeted by two crying kiddos who were under Michael’s watchful eye. We spent the rest of the mid-morning and afternoon consoling the kids, I ate cookie dough for lunch (pathetic, I know), and shared a shower with our very clingy 2-year-old.

What's the point?
Why are we even having this meeting about our build you may ask? For starters, we’re establishing a budget for our floor plans. The pictured floor plan is a work in progress but is the basic gist of what we want. We don’t have a dollar amount in mind for our build, so this is a good reality check to determine how much longer we may need to save. Secondly, we’re establishing a good working relationship with our builder to make future decision-making easier.
While my mood is a bit sour, I’m putting on my happy pants and heading to our meeting. We’re praying for a blessed meeting and dollar amount that allows us to build sooner than we think. However, we all know that God’s timing is ALWAYS right. While it may feel like we’re stuck where we’re at and anxious to build, we’re trusting God’s timing and (trying) to wait on Him. As my late grandma Connie used to say, God’s last minute, but He’s always on time. Stay tuned to see how the meeting went!
