Struggling with Grace?
This past year, Michael and I struggled with giving grace when we needed to most. We've had a lot of curveballs thrown our way. We've had financial hurdles, personal struggles, and dealing with two kiddos on top of everything is impossible some days. Although after some tough times, it's still difficult to show grace in some situations.
Regardless of the trials we've faced, Michael and I continue to pour into the Bible and take solace in the truth of the Word. These are our favorite verses that encompass grace. The verses help us keep going while being reminded of the grace we've been shown and need to reciprocate. We hope you can find some truth to them as well.
NOTE: All of these translations come from the NASB (New American Standard Bible).
1. Ephesians 2:8
8For by grace you have been saved through faith; and [l]this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
2. James 4:6
6But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.”
3. John 1:16
16For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.
4. 2 Corinthians 12:9
9And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
5. Romans 6:14
14For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under the Law but under grace.
6. Hebrews 4:16
16Therefore let’s approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of our need.
7. 1 Corinthians 15:10
10But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.
8. Romans 5:8
8But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9. Romans 11:6
6But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, since otherwise grace is no longer grace.
10. Romans 3:21-26
21But now apart [p]from the Law the righteousness of God has been revealed, being witnessed by the [q]Law and the Prophets, 22but it is the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those [r]who believe; for there is no distinction, 23for all [s]have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, 25whom God displayed publicly as a [t]propitiation [u]in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, [v]because in God’s merciful restraint He let the sins previously committed go unpunished; 26for the demonstration, that is, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who [w]has faith in Jesus.
Bonus Verse: Titus 2:11-14
11For the grace of God has appeared, [h]bringing salvation to all people, 12[i]instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously, and in a godly manner in the present age, 13looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of [j]our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, 14who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, eager for good deeds.
Final Thoughts about Grace
We hope you find some comfort in these verses. While the road may seem difficult, let today be a lesson for all of us. Jesus shows us grace every day, so we should have a kind heart and do the same. For Michael and me, this is easier said than done. But we continue to grow our faith and lean on Him in all things. We encourage you to do the same.
