A Night of Nostalgia
Last Saturday, Michael and I decided to throw the kids a fun Cars-themed movie night. MJ is loving the Cars franchise, and it is also one of Michael's favorites. We decided to do a movie night once a month while the kids are still young and can appreciate these simple times with Mom and Dad. This is the second movie night we've enjoyed. We made the food and decorated our small kitchen table with our spread.
What we served
I searched Pinterest and got a lot of great inspiration. Some of these ideas we took directly, and others were Michael and I's original ideas. We served a lot of toddler-friendly food, but chose to sneak in some healthy choices as well.
Appetizers
- Ka-Chow Cheese Sticks. These were easy-peasy mozzarella sticks that we heated in the air fryer.
- Dinoco's Dip Sticks. We wanted a veggie option, so we used petite carrot sticks for this fun spin on the famous gas station.
Entrees
- Chick Hicks Chicken Nuggets. This one was a bit of a cop-out, but MJ is in a chicken-only phase (if you know, you know), and we knew he'd at least eat the main meal.
- Tow Mater's Tater Wedges. I knew I wanted to do something potatoey to rhyme with Mater, and this was easy enough to come up with. Plus, they're super easy for MJ to eat.
- Mack's Rust-Eze Macaroni & Cheese. Ever the crowd favorite, we went with the classic Kraft food.
Desserts
- Leaning Tower of Chocolate Tires. This is one I pulled straight from Pinterest. Someone had the amazing idea to use mini chocolate donuts, which worked perfectly!
- Flo's Fruit Cups. Our other "healthy" option. MJ is not a huge chocolate fan, so this was a great choice.
Drinks
- Fillmore's Organic Fuel. We don't allow MJ to drink anything other than milk and water, so this was our catchy name for milk. It went well with the chocolate donuts.
The Setup
We purchased an inexpensive red tablecloth for our small kitchen table and a checkered flag banner to hang as a backdrop. I made 3 balloon clusters that fit the theme perfectly. We decided to go with neutral servingware so we could use it for subsequent movie nights!

Here's everything we used for the tablescape! The galvanized trays were left over from our wedding, but everything else can be sourced from Amazon!

Now it's your turn!
This was such a fun night, and the kids had a GREAT time. Who are we kidding? Michael and I had a great time as well, that is, once we finally sat down to watch the movie. MJ was so looking forward to watching Cars and eating "Cars food" until the time came to actually watch it, and then he was no longer interested in watching it. After convincing him to watch "Tow Mater", we got settled in for our movie night.
To make it easy for you, we've made the food labels and menu available for download. Click here to download them.
We can't wait for our next movie night. We're already planning to do an Incredibles Theme complete with Bob's BBQ Wings. Let us know in the comments if you had as much fun as we did doing a Cars Movie Night. We'd love to hear from you!
